At the beginning of January, my sister-in-law and I got together and set up a facebook group for New Year, New Meals. It’s so easy to get in a rut when it comes to forming our weekly meal plans. It’s hard to pull dinner together every week, but I was so excited to share this recipe for Slow Cooker Venison Stroganoff. Its become something we have at least once a month.
This recipe is perfect for fall when deer meat is fresh, spring when you are busy and looking for easy baseball night dinners, or summer when yous till want comfort food and the crockpot does the hard work cooking for you.

I’ve been working to eat down our freezer and use up the meat and vegetables that we have on our shelves. For us, that means getting to use up some of the deer meat that my mom shared with us. They process several deer during the fall season. Growing up, I never really liked being part of that tradition (or chore). I really have a weird “thing” about meat on the bone which is why I didn’t eat a rib until I was almost 25. I still don’t like fried chicken on the bone and really took one for the team helping Mr. McKinney carve the turkey at Christmas.
But, there is something about the care and way my folks process the deer meat that eliminates a lot of the gamey taste that deer meat often has. Combine that with the soft meat that comes from the slow cooker and this recipe for Crockpot Deer Stroganoff is by far one of the top 3 ways for me to eat deer meat. But, this recipe also works great with regular beef stew meat pieces or round steak. That’s where I had it first and realized it would work for deer meat as well.
