If you are like me, your mind has switched this week to get your kiddos’ Easter baskets together. Whether you do something extravagant or just a little happy when your kids wake up, it can be overwhelming to think about what to pull and set aside for an Easter Basket for 4-6-year-olds.

I’m unsure where the Easter basket idea started (I should look that up!). But, as a kid having a basket of goodies and a giant blow-up Easter bunny on the kitchen counter were always part of our Easter morning celebrations. I loved the idea of something fun on Easter morning, even though we didn’t make as big a deal out of it as Santa. It was more like a treat thing left out vs. drawing it out for weeks leading up to the holiday. Some years we left out a carrot shape with jelly beans, and other years, we left out actual carrots.Â
I like to think about the Easter basket as being fun items that get us ready for spring. I like to think about items I would need to buy for sports or outdoor play. Fun little toys I’ve said no to a million times at the store. A new snack or lunch treat my kid always asks for and always fun educational toys and games for road trips and individual play.
Don’t forget to look ahead on your family calendar. What is coming up that you know will bring some expenses? Double up with Easter treats and go ahead and have what you need on hand.
And, let’s be honest, keep this easy on yourself. Set up items in a Target pick-up, or include them in your regular grocery delivery. This doesn’t have to be something you overthink or spend a ton of time on…unless that’s your thing. Â

For big kids, many of the same things work in their age-appropriate ways. But, when kids get to be tweens or teenagers, they love money and money-replacement things. That’s hard, and we don’t always like it, but it’s what they love, so don’t complicate it.
Give them a case of their favorite drinks or candy and an iTunes card, gas money, coffee or Sonic money, gas station money for snacks, or game credits.Â
These are great ideas for us GRANDmothers too! Helpful and on my shopping list now! Our two littles will be delighted with these ideas as there will be just a bit of chocolate added too to make their mothers happy.
