Is it Easter until you’ve made an Easter Bunny Cake? I have a friend who always used this tradition with her kids and now I love to make an Easter Bunny Cake with my kiddo. It’s so easy and kinda like gingerbread houses, there really aren’t any decorating rules.
This is one of those moments as a parent where I say, just let it go. The bunny cake doesn’t have to be perfect. That’s one of the fun things about this tradition. Some years you have cross-eyed bunnies and other years you have artistic masterpieces. It really doesn’t matter what it looks like – this is a chance to let your kid have control and be creative. Stay close and make fun memories!
A few bunny cake rules:
- Make your cakes ahead of time so they are cooled and ready to decorate
- I always suggest funfetti cake mix, but any flavor cake works.Â
- You will need a big tray, cookie sheet, or waxed paper to lay out your cake
- Use candy that is edible for decorating (vs. raiding the leftover valentines candy) because they will eat the candy while they decorate
- Give kids the liberty and freedome to mess up
- Maybe consider multiple bunny cakes and have a family decorating competition
Bunny Cake
Ingredients
- 1 funfetti boxed cake mix
- Ingredients on cake box to make cake
- 1 can white frosting
- Candy for decorations
Instructions
- Mix cake according to boxed directions.
- Generously spray 2- round cake pans.
- Pour batter into cake pans and bake according to directions.
- Allow cakes to cool completely.
- **One great option is to bake cakes after breakfast. Turn out onto a cooling rack and cover with a dishtowel until ready to decorate.
- Cut one round into ears and bowtie (see diagram below).
- Place one round in the middle of tray.
- Place ears on top of the round cake and the bowtie shape below round.
- Ice cake completely with white icing.
- Use candies and sprinkles to decorate the cake.
- Have fun and make memories.
Notes
Some also wonder about how to cut the round cake to make ears and a bowtie – just think the strings on a baseball, use the same method.
