Last night, Little Man hosted a little get together for his grandparents. A Ghouls Night Out where a couple goblins were invited too! I don’t love celebrating Halloween and all the scary stuff, but I do love celebrating holidays with fun food. I also like to keep it easy, especially when we are having a get together on a school night. So, to end our evening, I made Graveyard Pudding Pie, my take on a Graveyard Cake and Dirt Dessert. Just something fun and simple to celebrate Halloween with food! If you don’t have a treat ready yet for tonight for your brood, this one calls for 5 ingredients and is super easy. You could grab everything on your lunch break or make it after you get home, before dinner. (oh and in case no one told you, corndogs are $.50 at Sonic today!)

On the Menu:

  • Tomato Basil Soup – I’ll share this recipe later
  • Halloweenies – mini cocktail sausages wrapped with crescent rolls – I try to make them cute
  • Goblin Juice – Green Hawaiian Punch mixed with Pineapple Soda-for real fun, freeze plastic bugs in ice cube.
  • Graveyard Pudding Pie

The ingredients were simple to gather and the menu was easy to make ahead since we have errands and visits to make throughout our day!

Growing up, my mom tried her best to make every occasion a special occasion. We dressed up and went to the Fall Festival at our church (that she was usually in charge of) and played games and gathered candy there. I remember a few years where we would stop by our neighbors or friends who lived near the church, but we weren’t really in to the door to door trick or treat thing. I think it scared me and frankly still does. But, we have gummy bears ready to pass out if we have any guests who come early tonight.

Graveyard Pudding Pie

Graveyard Pudding Pie is a Halloween version of our favorite Dirt Pudding Pie. This is always a fun treat to have at our annual Halloween dinner or friend gathering.
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 3.9 oz boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 pkg chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 2 tubs whipped topping
  • 1 pkg Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the budding mix and milk.
  • Set aside to set up and thicken.
  • Pour sandwich cookies in to gallon size back.
  • Squish out the air and seal.
  • Using a rolling pin, crunch/break up the cookies in to small pieces.
  • Once the pudding has thickened, dump the cookies in to the pudding.
  • Add one tub of whipped topping to the pudding.
  • Stir all 3 ingredients together.
  • Pour in to 9x13 baking dish.
  • Spread evenly across dish.
  • Spread second tub of whipped topping on top of pudding mixture.
  • Place Milano cookies throughout pie like tombstones standing up in a graveyard.
  • If making ahead, set the pudding mixture in the refrigerator without the Milano cookies in it and wait to place those right before serving so the part in the pudding pie does not get soggy.
  • If the cookies fall over or break, that's ok. It happens in a graveyard too.
  • Of course if you want to get crazy, you can write on the tombstones with icing before placing them. Or, you can add worms, spiders or other creepy crawly things!

While I didn’t do it, this recipe could make an easy Sugar Free Halloween dessert by replacing the pudding with Sugar Free Instant Pudding, using low-fat milk, Sugar Free Cool Whip, and a Sugar Free vanilla wafer or wafer cookie.
