Well, we had an eventful week around here last week. Mr. McKinney broke his ankle and had surgery. Yep, 2 babies to take care of, but we are making it ok. He has been great about it and of course, is checking in on me to make sure I’m doing alright. After 2 years of marriage, I really can’t hide much because I have no poker face. I’m thankful that he is attentive and doing what he can. It will be nice to have a few extra days together.

I’ve been trying to talk him into eating green smoothies with me. He wasn’t so keen on the idea, but we have got to get those bones better. So, Give Me A Break Green Smoothies it is!

We know that getting some calcium and calcium rebuilders are first priorities. However for the body to properly absorb extra calcium, it needs extra magnesium. Of course, a little extra Vitamin C never hurts when your body is trying to fight off infection. So, I’ve been working on a new breakfast option for us. Whether its breakfast or an afternoon snack. Here’s hoping its a new option to make healthy choices. And, I’ve got little masking tape labels on them so I don’t get my version with strawberries mixed in accidentally in front of Mr. McKinney.

Also, I’m hoping I get a new blender out of this. Might be time to get a fancy blender that actually makes everything smooth.

So, what’s in the Give Me a Break Green Smoothie?

Give me a Break Green Smoothie

This version of the Green Smoothie is full of natural VitaminC and antioxidant minerals to help fight off infection and naturally rebuild bones.

Ingredients

  • 1 handful spinach or spinach/kale mixture
  • 1 mango peeled and cut in big pieces
  • 1 orange peeled and segmented
  • 1 green apple cut in sections and seeds and stem removed
  • 3-4 clementines peeled and segmented
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon flax seed
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon chia seed
  • 32 oz. aloe vera juice with mango (coconut water is great too)

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to the blender as listed.
  • Mix on medium to stir together all ingredients.
  • Shift to higher setting and blend until smooth.
  • Pour into 5-quart size mason jars.
  • Seal with lids and freeze.
  • Set out in a refrigerator overnight to thaw.

Notes

Smoothie can be eaten at the time it’s mixed. If you choose to use frozen fruit or frozen ingredients, the smoothie will have icy texture. Drink cold for best experience (and use a straw if desired).

Bags of ingredients can be made ahead. Prep fruit/veggies and seeds at the beginning of the month in quart-sized Ziploc bags. Freeze them until you are ready to create. Pour juice over the baggie contents when you are ready to make them. I do these on Sunday and then I’m ready for the week.

Fruits and veggies are always a great way to naturally do some healing.

Do you need some of these supplies to make your own smoothies?
