I told each of the people that I invited in this month, the same thing, “you are one of the people that inspire me, that are part of my past, that are shaping my present, that I admire and I get“. I gave them a few instructions and I let them be with their thoughts.
This guy was quick on my list of people I wanted to introduce you to. I “met” Dave through a hashtag during a communications conference. Its as simple as that. He and I were both engaging in hashtag conversation. But, it was very clear that while Dave’s professional life is a marketing and communications strategist, he gets how to just be present and contribute in the most natural way in the land of social media. He, and another presenter in the conference started a twitter conversation with me and challenged me to take Pinterest and my current professional role to the next level. I love a good challenge to pioneer a project; to lead out in taking something common and make it extraordinary for the sake of another (that’s not the Webster definition, that’s mine).
Someday I’m sure a conference will have us meet, but until then, I give you my pal and OVERCOMER – Dave Shrein!
- What have you OVERCOME? Security
- What was your turning point? In July I was let go from my job of nearly 6 years. I had to make the decision to either find a job or give a go at building my own business. Being let go forced me to make a choice.
- 5 word life mantra – Add value for other people
- Quote you live by – “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence and whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.” – unknown

Hi, Dave! I so get this. Security is something I have a hard time letting go of. Eighteen years at a job is tough to let go. Someday I hope to be as brave as you (even if it was forced-you're truly brave).
Reminds me of one of my favorite Bible verses, 1 John 5:4,5 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
I think that people have different risk levels – we have lived a pretty risky life with no real safety net, but everyone is different. It's ok to crave a little security… take small, measured risks and that might feel just right.
