Soy-based Insect Repellent

Materials

  • 1 Cup Soy Wax
  • 1 Cup Shea Butter
  • 1 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 30 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • 30 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
  • 20 drops Geranium Essential Oil
  • 20 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 20 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • 10 plastic roll-on containers or 5 small glass jars

Instructions

  • In double-broiler, melt soy wax.
  • Cut up shea butter into cubes.
  • Add shea butter to soy wax, when it begins to melt.
  • Stir in shea butter until completely melted.
  • Add coconut and stir to incorporate fully.
  • Drop oils into the top of the mixture.
  • Stir until completely incorporated.
  • Pour hot mixture into a glass measuring cup with a pour spout.
  • Pour into roll-on containers, leaving a tiny bit before the top edge.
  • Allow mixture to harden for several hours or overnight.
  • Clean spills off outside of the packaging
  • Place lids on top of containers.
  • Add a label if desired to the outside of roll on.
  • Store in a cool and dry place.
  • Roll-on repellent around ankles, wrists, and neck, or where you usually get bitten by insects.

Notes

Soybean/Vegetable Oil is a good substitute for the Coconut Oil, but the misquotes are not a fan of coconut oil, and it hardens at room temperature, so it makes a great addition to the repellent mixture.
