Lightened Up Sunday Salisbury Steak

This lightened-up Salisbury Steak is an easy weeknight dinner or perfect for Sunday lunch with a rich and hearty brown gravy to serve over instant mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ½ cup bread crumbs or crushed croutons
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire separated
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar-free ketchup separated
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 pouch low sodium brown gravy mix
  • 1 can golden mushroom soup

Instructions

  • Cut onion into slices or rings.
  • All olive oil to sauté pan or iron skillet.
  • Separate into a pan and sauté until translucent.
  • In a bowl mix together turkey, bread crumbs, egg, 1 T Worcestershire, 1 T ketchup, and 1 T Dijon mustard.
  • Using hands, squish together to incorporate all of the ingredients.
  • Divide mixture into fourths.
  • Form a ball, then flatten it into a patty shape.
  • Set aside.
  • Once onions are cooked, push to the side of the skillet and brown both sides of all four meat Patties. Add more olive oil to the skillet if needed.
  • In a glass measuring cup, fill with 2 cups of hot water.
  • Add gravy mix and golden mushroom soup.
  • Stir together with a fork to remove clumps and incorporate soup.
  • Add 1 T Worcestershire and 1 T ketchup.
  • Stir together.
  • Once all the Patties have been cooked on both sides, stir around the onion, add meat to the skillet and pour sauce over the top.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.

Notes
I always keep things easy on myself and serve this over instant mashed potatoes. My favorite is Idahoan home style; I just add some milk and cheese to them.
Wheat egg noodles are an easy alternative to potatoes. But there is just nothing like that gravy on the mashed potatoes.
